In a strategic diplomatic development, senior representatives from India and China have agreed to advance long-pending boundary delimitation talks. Following high-level discussions between National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, both nations pledged to work toward an "early and substantial harvest" on resolving border disputes along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). To prevent miscalculations and manage frontline operational tensions, both governments announced the establishment of two new military hotlines and two additional meeting points along key border sectors. Indian diplomatic channels affirmed that establishing reliable communication infrastructure remains vital for sustaining disengagement and maintaining long-term regional stability. Eight-Point Consensus Reached in BeijingIn a significant diplomatic breakthrough aimed at consolidating border peace, India and China have reached a comprehensive eight-point consensus during the 25th round of Special Representatives (SR) talks held in Beijing. Co-chaired by India’s National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the high-level dialogue focused on bolstering military confidence-building measures and accelerating discussions toward resolving the long-standing boundary dispute. Complementing these hotline channels, two new meeting points for General-Level Mechanism and Senior Highest Military Commanders were operationalized. Diplomatic channels, including the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC) and local commander-level meetings, will serve as the immediate response framework to address misunderstandings, clarify LAC perceptions in sensitive pockets, and maintain status quo stability. Early Harvest Delimitation and Regional CooperationBeyond immediate border management, the joint statement highlighted a strategic mandate for the Expert Group on Boundary Delimitation to pursue an "early and substantial harvest". This initiative seeks to establish clear boundaries in segments of the LAC where alignment differences are minimal. Parallelly, practical cross-border cooperation gained fresh momentum with the reopening of three designated border trade points and an increase in batches for the official Kailash-Mansarovar Yatra pilgrimage. Reaffirming their adherence to the 2005 Agreement on Political Parameters and Guiding Principles, both nations agreed to host the 26th round of SR talks in India in 2027, signaling a shared commitment toward long-term strategic stability.
