India and China reached a milestone eight-point diplomatic consensus following high-level Special Representative (SR) talks in Beijing between National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Both nations agreed to advance formal negotiations for an "early and substantial harvest" regarding long-standing boundary delimitation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The strategic agreement establishes two additional channels of border military hotlines in the Eastern and Middle Sectors, alongside two new general-level military meeting points to resolve frontline ground issues promptly and prevent miscalculations. Furthermore, both sides agreed to resume the expert-level mechanism on trans-border river data sharing and support the expansion of bilateral border trade and regional pilgrimages. Key Breakthrough at 25th Special Representatives DialogueIn a major diplomatic development aimed at maintaining long-term peace along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), India and China have formally announced an eight-point consensus following the 25th round of Special Representatives (SR) talks in Beijing. Co-chaired by National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the high-level dialogue yielded a rare joint statement outlining specific steps to de-escalate ground friction and accelerate negotiations toward a fair, reasonable, and mutually acceptable settlement of the boundary question. Reaffirming their commitment to the guidance of top leadership and the 2005 Agreement on Political Parameters and Guiding Principles, both nations agreed to strengthen operational frameworks to prevent miscalculations and foster a stable environment for broader bilateral engagement. Expanding on preliminary understandings reached in previous rounds, the two working groups are tasked with establishing their respective Terms of Reference as an immediate priority. This structural effort seeks to formalize boundary delimitation in less complex areas along the LAC while clarifying mutual understandings to minimize operational friction during routine patrols. Upgraded Military Contact and Trans-Border CooperationTo ensure localized incidents are quickly de-escalated, both sides agreed to establish two additional channels of border military hotlines and open two new meeting points for General-Level Mechanism/Senior Highest Military Commander meetings in the Eastern and Middle Sectors. Beyond security protocols, the agreement re-energized practical bilateral mechanisms. India acknowledged China's measures to increase pilgrim batches for the official Kailash-Mansarovar Yatra, while both sides welcomed the reopening of three designated border trading points. Coupled with scheduled September meetings on trans-border river data sharing, the 25th SR talks mark a structured roadmap toward border stabilization ahead of the 26th SR round set for India in 2027.
