The Indian men's cricket team claimed a dominant 165-run victory against Sri Lanka in the first Test match held at Galle International Stadium. Powered by a standout 10-wicket haul from spinner Manav Suthar, the Indian bowling attack dismantled Sri Lanka’s second-innings lineup on the final day. The decisive result gives India a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series ahead of the upcoming second match in Colombo. Suthar's Spin Masterclass Triggers Final Day Collapse The Indian cricket team wrapped up a commanding 165-run victory over Sri Lanka on the fifth afternoon of the first Test at the Galle International Stadium, taking an early 1-0 lead in the two-match series. Chasing a formidable target of 372 on a spinning, day-five track, Sri Lanka resumed their final morning at 84 for four and mounted a brief resistance through skipper Dhananjaya de Silva and first-innings centurion Sonal Dinusha. The pair added 95 runs to temporarily delay the Indian victory, with both batters bringing up fought half-centuries. However, veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja broke the dangerous partnership by removing de Silva for 59, opening up Sri Lanka's middle order. Left-arm spinner Manav Suthar then delivered a devastating spell shortly after lunch, taking four wickets in the span of just ten balls—including a lethal three-wicket burst in the 76th over—to bowl out Sri Lanka for 206 and seal a memorable win. Padikkal and Suthar Star in Dominant All-Round Display Playing in just his second Test match, 24-year-old Manav Suthar emerged as the chief architect of India's victory, finishing with second-innings figures of 6 for 55 to record his maiden 10-wicket match haul. Combined with his four-wicket display in the first innings, Suthar's control and extra bounce completely paralyzed the host's batting lineup on a turning surface. Earlier in the match, India laid the foundation for their 464-run first-innings total through Player of the Match Devdutt Padikkal, who registered a brilliant maiden Test century scoring 167 off 230 balls. Supported by KL Rahul’s fluent 82 and a second-innings quickfire 66 from Rishabh Pant, India maintained total operational control despite a solid counter-attacking performance from Sri Lanka's Sonal Dinusha across both innings. World Test Championship Standings and Road Ahead The decisive victory in Galle provides a crucial boost for India's World Test Championship (WTC) campaign, delivering 12 vital points and lifting their points percentage (PCT) to 53.33 percent. The match held historic significance as India's 600th Test match, marking a perfect turnaround following a tough home series loss against South Africa. The Indian squad managed to bowl out Sri Lanka's tail just minutes before heavy rain clouds burst over Galle, narrowly avoiding weather delays on the final day. As captain Shubman Gill and his team prepare for the second and final Test, the clinical performance in Galle reinstates India's dominance in subcontinent red-ball conditions and keeps their WTC Final ambitions firmly on track.
